10 Hollywood Starlets Rocking Body Positivity

One thing’s for certain: Hollywood’s obsessed with bodies. Their shapes, their weights, and how they measure up to the competition. This is especially true for members of the fairer sex. With low self-esteem rampant in everyday society, America needs a new set of body-positive female celebrities to look up to. Instead of fixating on the Barbie lookalikes, we should embrace women who love their bodies for what they are. The staff here at DIETSiTRIED thinks that body positivity is always in fashion.

Here are ten women totally comfortable in their own skin:

REBEL WILSON: REBELLING AGAINST SHALLOWNESS

Best known her portrayal of “Fat Amy” in Pitch Perfect, this Australian actress is both talented and hilarious. She’s also no size zero. Rebel is leading the battle against Hollywood’s body-shaming epidemic. You can always count on her to stand up against perceived discrimination:

[blockquote]“I don’t really care what I look like that much, and I think women out there should just be happy with the way they look. They shouldn’t really try to conform to any kind of stereotype. Just be happy and hopefully healthy.”[/blockquote]

Now, THAT’S sexy!

CHRISTINA HENDRICKS: MAD ABOUT WEIGHT DISCRIMINATION

A curvy actress best-known for her role in Mad Men, Hendricks received plenty of accolades for her stereotypical hourglass figure. However, even when her body’s less fit, Christina embraces it with grace and alacrity. Here’s what she had to say about her weight gain experiences:

“Back when I was modeling, the first time I went to Italy, I was having cappuccinos every day, and I gained 15 pounds. And I felt gorgeous! I would take my clothes off in front of the mirror and be like, ‘Oh, I look like a woman.’ And I felt beautiful, and I never tried to lose it, because I loved it.”

KELLY OSBOURNE: THE BODY SHAMING POLICE

A former correspondent on the Fashion Police and daughter of controversial rocker Ozzy Osbourne, Kelly does not remember a life without the spotlight. She’s always willing to help people struggling with public attention and, most importantly to this article, body image issues. Before losing more than 70 pounds, this red-carpet stunner struggled with her weight. Kelly’s now the spokesperson for individuality and body positivity:

“Everyone has good days, everyone has bad days. I call myself a former fat person, and when you’re an FFP, you still see yourself as the person you used to be. That’s something I’m genuinely working on all the time.”

EMMA WATSON: EXPECTO CONFIDENTIA

Best known for her portrayals of Harry Potter’s Hermione Granger and Beauty and the Beast’s Belle, Emma Watson is also an outspoken advocate for women’s rights. Though typified as a beautiful woman, Watson is critical of the unnecessary focus placed on her image:

“I keep telling myself that I am a human being, an imperfect human being who’s not made to look like a doll.”

TAYLOR SWIFT: SHAKING OFF THE NEGATIVITY

She’s a lot more outspoken than when her first album broke in 2006. This music superstar now embodies confidence in all its forms. Taylor leads the way with body positivity, a pro-gender-equality stance, and a staggering amount of self-love. Swift is also a huge influence on young girls. Luckily for us, she knows exactly what to say:

“I definitely have body issues, but everybody does. When you come to the realization that everybody does that–even the people I consider flawless–you can start to live with the way you are.”

AMBER RILEY: A SONGBIRD ROCKING BODY POSITIVITY

A champion of Dancing with the Stars and former star of Glee is well-known for her curvy body, charming attitude, and stunning singing voice. But, because she’s no size 2, Amber is no stranger to body-shaming. No matter what people say, however, Riley keeps her positive attitude on display. She’s a strong and confident woman, after all. And, confidence can’t be measured with a ruler:

“I’m not going to conform and hurt myself, and do something crazy to be a size 2.”

SELENA GOMEZ: BODY POSITIVE CHILD STAR

This child star has spent most of her life in the limelight. Because of that, she’s received negative comments about everything from her body to her dating profile. After being lampooned for an image of herself in a bikini, this young lady fought back. That picture now proudly displays the caption:

“I love being happy with me y’all #theresmoretolove.”

Rock that body positivity, Selena!

JENNIFER LAWRENCE: PROFANITY BEFORE SHALLOWNESS

One of the world’s most vocal advocates for womanhood, Lawrence has lots to say about body and weight discrimination. She’s also quick to shoot down journalists who ask about her body. Lawrence has even told one reporter to “Go fuck yourself” when questioned about her dieting habits. Jennifer openly disagrees with statements like, “Nothing tastes like skinny feels.” Jennifer Lawrence is a happy, smart, and highly talented actress.

And, her success has nothing to do with her appearance.

“Girls see enough of this body that we can’t imitate, that we’ll never be able to obtain…these unrealistic expectations. It’s better to look strong and healthy.”

MELISSA MCCARTHY: BE YOURSELF FIRST

This funny lady tops our list of favorite people. After hitting it big in Bridesmaids, McCarthy is now the star of her own wildly-popular TV show. She’s done a lot more than shake up the world of comedy, however. She’s also one of the women leading the charge against the proliferation of negative body image:

“I’ve never felt like I needed to change…I’ve always thought, ‘If you want somebody different, pick somebody else.’”

ADELE: A SINGER PROUD TO REPRESENT THE AVERAGE WOMAN

Adele can captures hearts with a single note. But, long before she hit it big, Adele struggled with a music industry that focused more on weight than on singing voice. She overcame this narrow-minded view and now works as a huge advocate for body positivity. She’s quick to assure others that all women deserve their place in the spotlight:

“I’ve never wanted to look like models on the cover of magazines. I represent the majority of women and I’m very proud of that.”

Keep it up, ladies!
