Geared towards women, Sweat: Kayla Itsines Fitness is considered one of the best fitness apps that is a complement to the Bikini Body Guide by Kayla Itsines, a famous Australian personal trainer. If you’ve never completed the Bikini Body Guide, that’s okay, you can still utilize Sweat to pursue your own fitness goals as the workouts and nutritional recommendations are directly from the BBG.
Backed by a widely popular and supportive female-dominated fan base and fitness community, Sweat is one of the most popular fitness apps on iTunes and Play Store. The BBG provides you with 12-weeks’ worth of workouts that can be performed both at the gym and at home in about 30 minutes. You’ll also get access to 12-weeks of nutritional guides.
Unlike many other workout tracking apps out there, Sweat does not have a free and premium distinction. In order to take advantage of Sweat, you’ll need to sign up for the monthly subscription fee. There is a free trial, which is something I’ll expand on below.
The variety of resistance-based workouts is impressive. Sweat cycles through different training methodologies such as fundamental resistance training, high intensity interval training (HIIT), low intensity steady state cardio (LISS), and stretching while activating a variety of major muscle groups in the same workout.
The cycling of training methodologies is especially important for results as many workout programs stay with the same exercises and performance goals for weeks or months at a time. For example, in one of her circuit-focused workouts, Kayla has you performing the following exercises in rapid succession:
Put together, these four movements activate nearly every major muscle group while driving intensity through the roof. Not only are you supporting fat loss but you’re also encouraging lean muscle mass development.
For most of us, time is of the essence and the last thing you need is a lengthy learning curve while you try to figure out a new app. The ease at which someone new to fitness technology could pick up the app and use it is worth taking note. Not only is the physical layout easy to use but the exercises and stretches come with instructions and videos to ensure anyone who is new to the program won’t be left confused.
Unlike some of the supposed best fitness apps out there, Sweat distinguishes itself by staying on the cusp of user-friendliness and user-access by getting ahead of the pack with updates. This may not seem like much but think about how many apps you’ve deleted or forgotten about because they didn’t stay up-to-date and became impossibly frustrating to use. What’s more, if an app falls behind on updates, serious bug issues occur resulting in deletion.
With a great interface and constantly updated software, Sweat is a serious contender for best fitness app.
On forums and review sites across the web, you’ll find countless negative reviews of free trials that turned into monthly subscription plans before the trial was up. As I mention above, this is not a free app and the cost itself is considerably higher than most out there at $19.99 a month. There is also a yearly option available at $120. Something to consider if you are on a tight budget.
It’s important to know that if you are someone who has already purchased and completed the Bikini Body Guide on Kayla’s website, then everything you’ll find in the app will be a review. This is the second top complaint from customers. Clients who loved the Bikini Body Guide purchased the app thinking it would provide new content but it was the same workouts and dietary guide as found on the website. At that price point, having old workouts recycled back to you will quickly become a headache.
If you have already purchased the Bikini Body Guide then I would not recommend using Sweat. The app is too expensive to go over the same material.
With that said, some people may enjoy the review and convenience of having their workouts and diet program at their side at all times. Since Sweat constantly cycles through new training methodologies, you’re not going to be in danger of plateauing. If you are someone who needs consistency without surprises, then Sweat may be worth the buy.
If you’re never used the Bikini Body Guide before and you would like to have full access to a personal trainer, dietary guide, and workout programs, then Sweat may be for you.
The cost can be the biggest hit here compared to other apps but it also offers a free trial. What’s more, you may be able to find promotions such as the popular $1-for-12-weeks offer. My suggestion would be to give the app a try and make sure to cancel well before the end of the 30 days if you aren’t satisfied.
